Beth Israel’s Milton hospital names new CEO

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton named longtime local health care executive Richard Fernandez as chief executive, effective Jan. 30.

He will replace Peter Healy, who is leaving at the end of the year to become president of Beth Israel Deaconess’s flagship hospital in Boston, the Milton hospital said in a statement Monday.

Fernandez, 48, is senior vice president of ambulatory services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and was previously chief operating officer of Steward Health Care System’s physician group. This will be his first time running a hospital.

“Rich is [a] proven leader who will help us continue the strong progress we have made over the last several years,” Michael Brady, chairman of the hospital’s board, said in the statement.

Healy, 50, will oversee day-to-day operations at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center starting Jan. 1. Dr. Kevin Tabb, chief executive of the Beth Israel Deaconess network, plans to focus more on strategy and fund-raising.

BID-Milton said chief financial officer Michael Conklin will serve as interim chief executive of the community hospital for the month of January.
