Foodler, a Boston-based take-out delivery service that has been popular among some people in recent years, is permanently shutting down its website and app starting Tuesday as the company merges with GrubHub.

“You will not be able to place any orders on the Foodler site or through the Foodler mobile app” after Oct. 17, a notice on the service’s website says.

In the notice, the company urged customers to begin ordering through GrubHub instead, calling it “the national leader in restaurant delivery.”

Foodler, known for its generous rewards program (and easily attainable T-shirts), also says that customers can no longer earn points as they had before, but can continue redeeming rewards earned as of Aug. 23 on GrubHub.

“Keep an eye out for an email from Grubhub on or around October 17 for ways to redeem with Grubhub. All remaining Foodler Points and FoodlerBucks will be converted to a Grubhub equivalent in Grubhub egift card value subject to applicable terms,” the company said.

The move led some to lament the closing on Reddit.

The companies announced in June that Foodler would be purchased by GrubHub as the Chicago company looked to strengthen its presence in New England. GrubHub then said the deal would add more than $80 million in annualized food sales this year, and that it would increase GrubHub’s national total of more than 55,000 restaurants and 8.8 million active users in more than 1,100 cities.
