Cybersecurity firm Rapid7 is moving to North Station.

The fast-growing tech company said Thursday that it will consolidate its Boston and Cambridge offices in a 147,000-square-foot headquarters at a new building under construction at the rail hub. Rapid7 becomes the first major office tenant at The Hub on Causeway, a mixed-use project that codevelopers Boston Properties and Delaware North aim to open next year.

For the company, which will move out of offices at 100 Summer St. in the Financial District and 1 Main St. in Kendall Square, it’s a chance to combine operations under one roof and design its own space, at an attractive price, chief executive Corey Thomas said. The firm has more than doubled its global head count since 2014 and has nearly 500 employees in Boston and Cambridge in about 90,000 square feet of office space.

“The Hub will offer us the room we need to grow and help spur a new innovation center in Boston amid the escalating costs of the Seaport and Cambridge,” Thomas said in a statement.

For Boston Properties and Delaware North, the deal brings an anchor tenant to fill most of the office space in the first phase of the project, which also will include a Star Market and an ArcLight Cinema at the front door of the TD Garden. Later phases are set to include a 38-story apartment tower, a hotel, and a 21-story office building. They are hoping the project, and Rapid7, help further establish a burgeoning market for office space around North Station and the Bulfinch Triangle.

“The primary goal since the planning process for The Hub on Causeway began years ago was to construct office space suitable for tech-driven companies at the forefront of innovation,” said Charlie Jacobs, chief executive of Delaware North’s Boston Holdings, in a statement. “Rapid7 more than fits that profile.”
