WASHINGTON — The White House said President Obama has nominated Vicki Kennedy to the board of governors for the US Postal Service.
Kennedy is the widow of former Senator Edward Kennedy, who died in 2009. The Massachusetts Democrat was a prominent supporter of Obama’s first presidential campaign.
Vicki Kennedy is a lawyer and cofounded the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. She is also on the board of trustees for the Kennedy Center.
Kennedy’s nomination must be confirmed by the Senate. The board of governors chooses the postmaster general and controls the postal service’s spending, planning, and policies.
