Accenture buys Cambridge design company Intrepid, plans to keep its 150 employees

Cambridge-based mobile design and development company Intrepid has been acquired by the consulting giant Accenture, which plans to add it to its stable of digital services while keeping its 150 employees in the area.

The companies, which did not reveal the terms of the acquisition, said in a news release that the deal “expands Accenture’s capabilities in design, native app development, connected device engineering, and web development in North America.”

Intrepid had been self-funded since Chief Executive Mark Kasdorf founded the firm in 2010 with money from a home equity loan. Its cash flow had sustained it after that, he said, with steady revenue growth each year. The company plans to maintain its presence here under Accenture, Kasdorf says.

“Intrepid loves being in Cambridge, we love being in Kendall Square, and my goal is to continue growing the company here,” he said in an interview.

The companies cited Intrepid’s engineering abilities as key to spurring Accenture’s interest, citing projects like its development of Saucony’s Stride Lab, an application that helps runners analyze their stride to improve performance and avoid getting hurt.

“Intrepid really brings a high caliber of engineering talent to the Accenture family,” said Ankur Mathur, managing director of Accenture Digital, the division Intrepid is joining. “That really helps us create some differentiation.”
