Israeli settlements thwart prospects for peace with Palestinians

THE GLOBE’S Dec. 21 editorial, “Israeli settlement plan is a blow to Mideast peace process,” was spot-on. Many of us in the Jewish community feel it important to be free to criticize the policies of Israel’s government, while supporting a democratic Jewish state.

In fact, most American Jews support the two-state solution and oppose West Bank settlement construction. Numerous polls have validated that.

Those of us who care about Israel’s future and see where it is heading, who want to be proud of a Jewish state that is also a democracy, and who want to see it live in security and peace, strongly reject this settlement construction, which our State Department recently called a “pattern of provocative action.” I thank the Globe for drawing attention to these damaging actions by Israel’s government.
