Discuss: What role should algorithms play in school equity?
A special report from the Ideas section examines the use of algorithms to reconfigure school start times: “Officials faced a number of difficult trade-offs. . . . The backlash, though, was much stronger than anyone anticipated.” What should the role of algorithms be in deciding public policy? How useful can they be in resolving political questions?
