From the Globe archives: Santa airborne, bound for the North End

Boston is transformed during the holiday season, as Santa walks the streets,

excited children abound, and fanciful decorations are everywhere. Amidst all
the shopping and hustle, warm-heartedness permeates the city.

In this photo from Dec. 10, 1979, Santa waves from his helicopter as it prepares
to land in Langone Park in the North End. Santa was the guest of honor
