Sunday’s Child: Kayanna committed to family

sarah feinberg

My name is Kayanna. I love to read novels. I think I might like to take up dance. Going to church is important to me.

Kayanna is an active, friendly, good-humored 12-year-old of Cape Verdean heritage. Intelligent and caring toward her peers, she does well academically. She does well one-on-one and is thoughtful and enjoys helping others. She responds well to positive attention, and she is in good health with a mild controllable medical issue.

Kayanna enjoys extracurricular activities and sports, namely basketball, soccer, and volleyball. She is also interested in taking dance classes. When she is not playing sports or riding her bicycle, she enjoys reading, playing video games, and watching television. Kayanna is an active reader who finds that it helps relieve stress. She also very much enjoys her involvement in her church.

Since entering foster care, Kayanna has lived in single-parent foster homes with other children. She is committed to being a respectful friend and family member and continues to seek support in this area. She is a willing helper with family chores.

Kayanna has phone contact and visits with five older siblings. Her social worker is seeking an adoptive family of any constellation with or without other children. It would be best if Kayanna is placed in an experienced family with some knowledge and understanding of childhood trauma and loss and how it affects behavior.

On Saturday, March 8, at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Dorchester, the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) will host an Adoption Information Open House.

Designed especially for those new to the idea of adoption, the 11 a.m.-2 p.m. program at 650 Dudley St. gives adults the opportunity to learn about adoption from experienced adoptive families and local social workers. Learn about the adoption process, the hundreds of children who are waiting for families, and the support services available for adoptive families and children.

Light refreshments are included. The open house, like adoption from foster care, is free. For more information or to RSVP or to learn more about Kayanna, call 617-542-3678 or visit
