    Bird sightings on Cape Cod

    Recent bird sightings on Cape Cod (as of Jan. 2) as reported to the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

    A king eider has been at the Hatches Harbor dike fire road in Provincetown.

    Sightings from Race Point in Provincetown included 3 Pacific loons, 10 red-necked grebes, 3 common murres, a thick-billed murre, 2,300 razorbills, 28 black-legged kittiwakes, 26 Iceland gulls, a lesser black-backed gull, 2 snowy owls, and 90 snow buntings.

    Other sightings around the Cape included a rose-breasted grosbeak in Woods Hole, a whimbrel and 2 Western sandpipers in Chatham, a chipping sparrow in Brewster, a semipalmated plover and a Baltimore oriole in Orleans, 2 American bitterns at Fort Hill in Eastham, and a rough-legged hawk at High Head in Truro.
