Bird sightings on Cape Cod

Recent bird sightings on Cape Cod (as of Jan. 30) as reported to the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

Three snow geese continued at First Encounter Beach in Eastham.

Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown included 2 Pacific loons, 9 common murres, 7 thick-billed murres, 8,500 razorbills, an Atlantic puffin, 225 black-legged kittiwakes, 78 Iceland gulls including a Thayer’s-type, a snowy owl, 3 common ravens, a merlin, and 50 snow buntings.


Other sightings around the Cape included a female king eider on the canal in Bourne and a male at Town Neck Beach in Sandwich, 7 bald eagles at Jenkins Pond in Falmouth, 2 black-headed gulls at Craigville Beach in Hyannis, a harlequin duck at Corporation Beach in Dennis, 2 saltmarsh sparrows at Fort Hill in Eastham, and a dovekie at MacMillan Pier in Provincetown.
