President Donald Trump attacked NBA star LeBron James in a savage late-night tweet that insulted the intelligence of one of the nation’s most prominent African-American men.
Trump made the remarks after CNN aired an interview with James conducted by Don Lemon but Lemon wasn’t the only person to respond (though he did). Fellow NBA players — current and former — as well as politicians, media mavens, and celebrities alike took to social media to make their thoughts on the matter clear.
.@KingJames is a great family man, incredible ballplayer, gives back to his community, and isn?t afraid to speak his mind. He?s a world class athlete and a class act. We need more like him in this world.— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) August 4, 2018
Rather than criticizing @KingJames, we should be celebrating him for his charity work and efforts to help kids.— John Kasich (@JohnKasich) August 4, 2018
By the way, all-around he?s better than Michael Jordan. That?s a fact.

THIS is what integrity looks like now?
THIS is what passes for the 'leader of the free world'?
After everything else he's done & said... you willing to accept the world needs a better President?
Don't (just) scream, #Midterm2018 #vote https://t.co/11NwYG1ZJU

Continued Blessings my brother ?
I hope Lebron doesn?t respond back to President Trump and just continues to be a great role model because the world needs more people like Lebron.— Chris Taft (@BlessedTaft) August 4, 2018
This is apparently what the President of the United States feels the need to share with the world at what should be long past his bedtime? It's a disgrace. It's racist. And it's the product of petty but dangerous hatreds. I repeat this is the PRESIDENT??!? https://t.co/MA8nZUxFc7— Dan Rather (@DanRather) August 4, 2018
I'd much rather live in a world reflecting the values, philanthropy, and yes intelligence of LeBron James and Don Lemon's intelligent commitment to truth and journalism than the divisive peevishness, lies, and narrow self-interest displayed by the President of the United States.— Dan Rather (@DanRather) August 4, 2018
It should be beneath the dignity of a sitting POTUS to take racist shots at D. Lemon and Lebron James. While only uttering kind words for ruthless dictators, Putin, Kim and Duterte. President Trump, we cape up for ours , ?BELIEVE THAT? #KinOrSkinWeRide— shannon sharpe (@ShannonSharpe) August 4, 2018
This is a late night tweet from the PRESIDENT. This tweet is immature and offensive. I would like to know why he considers these two successful black men ?dumb?. I know why. Some of y?all need to start believing what he is showing you. https://t.co/iE79LtGqBz— Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) August 4, 2018
Sometimes I wake up and see my news updates and think this can?t be real. How on earth is a self made millionaire who just gave away a school being criticized by the president?— Elena Delle Donne (@De11eDonne) August 4, 2018

LeBron James is helping young people get an education. You are an old delusional racist who puts our country at risk.— Adam Rippon (@Adaripp) August 4, 2018
A sign of an insecure human being is one who attacks others to make themselves feel better... im just sad that young kids have to see stupid tweets like these and grow up thinking it?s okay... forget everything else Donald your setting a bad example for kids our future https://t.co/eg0MECg8xC— Donovan Mitchell (@spidadmitchell) August 4, 2018
Trump called Don Lemon, LeBron James and Maxine Waters, "dumb". One is from the South. One is from Cleveland. One is from LA. One is in the NBA. One is on TV. One is in Congress. Hmmmm... I wonder what they could possibly have in common? Oh, wait...— Ana Navarro (@ananavarro) August 4, 2018
No clue why Trump is so jealous of LeBron. No clue at all. pic.twitter.com/aQVbmDq4YH— Adam Best (@adamcbest) August 4, 2018
LeBron James himself steered clear of the controversy Saturday, tweeting about the $8 million school he opened in Ohio.
