Turkish Taffy, Astro Pops, Mary Janes, fireballs, and Fun Dip. Welcome to Robin’s Candy Shop, a modern-day version of an old-fashioned penny candy store that doubles as a trip down memory lane. “We’re not a children’s candy store,” says owner Robin Helfand. Her goodies appeal more to “the kid in a grown-up.” The nine-month-old Newbury Street shop is the entrepreneur’s second; the first opened in 2008 in Great Barrington.

Every generation will find something to love. Fine chocolates, fudge, over 60 varieties of licorice (Helfand’s mother’s and grandmother’s favorite), party favors, knickknacks, including Silly Putty, slinkies, bagel yo-yos, and Mexican piñatas are in this spot. War Heads and Toxic Waste (uber-sour) and candied bugs (real ones) will appeal to teenage boys; a 2-pound marshmallow ($39) doubles as a birthday cake; a 27-pound gummy bear ($189) will feed the entire dorm; and candy pizza ($25 to $38) might be a treat for the office. For Easter, build your own basket ($15 to $150) with Peeps, Spanish nougat, Cadbury Creme Eggs, chocolate bunnies, and more. “It’s a happy business,” says Helfand. Every purchase comes with a mini toothbrush that reads, “Keep that sweet tooth healthy!”
