Harbor Sweets introduces collection of truffles and caramels

Tony Scarpetta

Salem-based Harbor Sweets introduced Salt & Ayre Chocolate, a collection of truffles and sea salt caramels to celebrate its 40th anniversary. According to owner and CEO Phyllis LeBlanc, the company’s traditional chocolates “have all been designed as gifts. We wanted something people could indulge themselves in.” The company developed the line incorporating spices, playing on Salem’s historic role in the spice trade. “We strayed a little bit,” LeBlanc notes, “but we brought in flavors from all over the world.” The Salt & Ayre collection includes chai, cafe au lait, hazelnut, and espresso truffles; and bon bons of 70 percent cacao dark chocolate-covered caramel with Himalayan sea salt, crystallized ginger with Thai ginger sea salt, and almond butter crunch topped with chipotle sea salt (boxes hold two pieces for $5, four for $7.50, nine for $16, and 16 for $24). The new chocolates also have new packaging. “We wanted to look more contemporary but relate to Harbor Sweets,” says the owner.  Available at Cardullo’s,
