This month, acclaimed pastry chef Frederic Robert will open Café Madeleine in the South End (517 Columbus Ave. at Concord Sq.). Robert comes to Boston from Paris’s Michelin-starred Plaza Athenee and New York City’s Essex House. (He also won a James Beard award for his book “Grand Livre de Cuisine: Alain Ducasse’s Desserts and Pastries,” co-authored with his longtime collaborator, chef Alain Ducasse.) Expect high-end French pastries like eclairs, macarons — and of course madeleines — made fresh daily. There will also be a small lunch menu highlighting salads, sandwiches like croque and monsieur, and quiche.
