Fans of Harvard Square’s Alden & Harlow, take note: Chef Michael Scelfo plans to open a taqueria at 297 Massachusetts Avenue near Central Square in early 2015 with business partners Brian Lesser and Alex Tannenbaum.
The name “Naco” means “irreverent,” says Scelfo.
“We’re going to be mindful and respectful of traditional taqueria style, but there will be some edgy stuff. I’m going to introduce my own kind of flavor,” he says.
To that end, look for cured and fermented items, nontraditional salsas, and off cuts of seafood and meat. “I want to stretch the notion of what a taco can be,” Scelfo says. “But don’t expect Korean barbecue tacos or anything. We’ll use Latin flavor profiles and stretch them a bit.”
The taqueria, inside the former Lotte Market, will have indoor and outdoor seating. “I love Central Square. This location is tremendous. It’s one of the coolest locations in all of Cambridge, so lively and with good neighbors,” Scelfo says.
