Somerville’s Kirkland Tap & Trotter (425 Washington Street at Beacon Street), run by James Beard award-winning chef Tony Maws, will launch a cafe starting Saturday, Dec. 6. Kirkland’s cafe will serve to-go coffee, tea, pastries, and yogurt on weekends from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The restaurant also launches Saturday brunch service the same day to supplement its regular Sunday brunch; that’s from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. every weekend. Meanwhile, sister restaurant Craigie on Main (853 Main Street at Pine Street) will end its popular regular brunch service on Sunday, Dec. 28. But all is not lost: The restaurant will soon be open for dinner seven nights a week. Maws will add Monday dinner service starting Jan. 5. Maws says that many of his brunch dishes from Craigie, like housemade donuts, will reappear as Kirkland specials.
