The Back Bay will get a Barcelona-inspired restaurant come summertime. The MET Group restaurateur Kathy Sidell plans to open Saltie Girl next door to her MET Back Bay (279 Dartmouth St. at Newbury Street) in July. It will take over her current Townhouse private events space.
Saltie Girl references Sidell’s favorite things to eat, and her personality. “Foods that are picante, sharp, edgy, and briny speak to me, and I use the word to describe myself, too,” Sidell says.
She says the small 30-seat, seafood-driven spot is inspired by her trips to Barcelona, especially the lauded Quimet & Quimet tapas bar. At Saltie Girl, there will be a large dining counter with oysters, “lots of lobster,” and salads cut to order.
With MET chef David Daniels, she’ll also focus on canning and jarring things like Italian tuna, sardines, baby artichokes, and hearts of palm. “There’ll be lots of cold stuff and extraordinary international foods,” she says.
The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner.
