Dave Becker, the chef behind Juniper in Wellesley and Sweet Basil in Needham, has been selling his signature dips, sauces, and pasta in local markets for a few years, and has added Juniper dips to the line. Smoked eggplant spread, tzatziki (a garlicky yogurt dip), butternut hummus with cinnamon (“It kind of tastes like pumpkin pie,” he says), skordalia (a spread with potato and roasted garlic) and fava bean hummus now join the Sweet Basil sauces — the restaurant is celebrating its 15th year — on refrigerated shelves. In the blends are Maalouf olive oil, made with olives grown at the Maalouf estate in Lebanon. “Every ingredient you put into the dips, you just make them really high quality,” says the chef. “At that point, it’s harder for you to screw up as you’re making it, because each one of the ingredients is good on their own merit.” Available at Sweet Basil, 942 Great Plain Ave., Needham, 781-444-9600; Juniper, 13 Central St., Wellesley, 781-446-6950; Moody’s Delicatessen & Provisions, 468 Moody St., Waltham, 781-216-8732; Fells Market, 326 Weston Road, Wellesley, 781-235-1555, and Volante Farms, 292 Forest St., Needham, 781-444-2351.
