Eat well and be happy

Last summer co-owners and longtime friends Susan Bergeron, 44, and Jennifer LoGiudice, 45, opened Eat Well Kitchen, a cozy storefront on Atlantic Avenue in Marblehead, with the goal of making good-tasting healthy food. “Kale is great,” says LoGiudice. “But if it doesn’t taste great, why bother?” The shop’s best-selling Farmers’ Market Pick ($7, or $9 with chicken) is roasted veggies topped with goat cheese and a bright, house-made sunflower pesto that can be ordered as a salad, sandwich (pictured), or wrap. On the seasonal menu are hearty slices of pumpkin bread ($2.50), butternut squash and apple soup ($3.50 and $5), and a sweet-potato kale salad with ginger-tahini dressing ($4 and $5.50). LoGiudice describes a couple who come in regularly: She gets a Go Green Juice with kale, cucumber, and celery, and he wants a sandwich with a chocolate chip cookie. “They both leave happy,” says LoGiudice.
