Dining decor: Outlook Kitchen + Bar

at the Envoy Hotel

What A floor-to-ceiling rope wall behind booths at the waterfront Seaport restaurant.

Whose idea Interior designers from Arizona’s Testani Design Troupe wanted to honor Boston’s maritime heritage with ropes,
salvaged from fishing piers and re-spun. They form a cozy wall that separates three curved booths from the hotel lobby, and they’re popular with giddy guests who enjoy playing peek-a-boo. “It never fails. Someone always reaches behind the booth and touches them or peers through them. They’re fun about it,” says general manager Bruno Marini. No cookie-cutter hotel restaurant decor here: “The whole restaurant tells a story. Our bar shelving mimics bridges, like the Tobin and Zakim. Light fixtures across the wall mimic Boston’s skyline. The whole look is like Boston, gritty but refined, and people pick up on that,” he says. Outlook Kitchen + Bar, 70 Sleeper St., Seaport District, Boston, 617-338-3030, www.theenvoyhotel.com
