Where Coppersmith
What A 40-foot steel Airstream trailer perched on the South Boston restaurant’s roof deck.
Whose idea Many of Coppersmith’s builders and owners grew up in the golden age of space travel, says general manager Aggelos Panagopoulos. In those days, astronauts were quarantined and transported home in Airstream trailers after lunar missions. “Everyone liked that nostalgia element. They remembered being kids and hearing about these missions,” Panagopoulos says. So one of Coppersmith’s builders bought his own trailer at auction. This version provides a different kind of otherworldly experience — it’s a bar. Look for a new retro cocktail menu at the trailer to complement a menu from incoming chef Jason Heard, late of East Coast Grill. “We’ll serve cocktails from the Airstream called things like the 1969, the Silver Bullet, or the NASA, as an homage,” Panagopoulos says. The restaurant will probably host cornhole and darts tournaments on the roof deck this summer, too, completing the throwback experience.
