A colander designed for the tiniest grains

When recipe directions start with the words “rinse and drain,” it helps to have a colander custom made for the job. OXO’s new Rice & Grains Washing Colander ($11.99) is ideal, able to handle even the tiniest grains. The colander looks like a well-designed 2½-quart mixing bowl with easy-grip handles, small draining holes on the bottom, and a spout with more holes. A scalloped base allows air to circulate underneath. As the grains are swirled back and forth, the colander drains like a spring shower; you can see when the water is clear and the grains are clean. Excess water on the bottom is poured off through the spout holes.
