Wait, there are whiskey doughnuts?

Kane's Handcrafted Donuts

As far as Dad-inspired doughnuts go, it's not overly flashy — it's not loaded with bacon or drizzled with barbecue sauce or infused with bits of beef.

But the newest concoction from Kane's Handcrafted Donuts does include one vestige of all-American manhood: whiskey.

Throughout June, Kane's is offering a special whiskey-glazed doughnut in honor of Father's Day. The release is part of a partnership with Sons of Liberty Spirits Company, a Rhode Island distillery.

To produce the taste, Kane's started with Sons of Liberty's single-malt Battle Cry whiskey, boiling it down before mixing it with butter, sugar, and honey to create the glaze.

The doughnut is available at both of Kane's locations — in Saugus ($2) and Boston ($3.25) — throughout the month. But be forewarned: They go quickly.

Asked about the doughnut in question one recent weekday morning, an employee who answered the phone at the downtown location was direct in his response.

"They're sold out for the day," he said.
