Grown-up peanut butter

Eliot’s Adult Nut Butters elevate a PB&J. The grown-up line of peanut butter, made with dry-roasted peanuts from Georgia, comes in bold flavor combinations like spicy Thai or honey chipotle. Other choices are garam masala, the Indian spice mix with cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves, and espresso nib, which has crunch from cacao nibs. The company also makes cashew butter with harissa, a delicious melding of heat from the North African paste and sweetness from the nuts. Michael Kanter was an aspiring chef and started the small-batch nut-butter company two years ago, based out of the Eliot neighborhood of Portland, Ore. He came up with the idea when he was snacking on spicy Thai cashews and it occurred to him that he rarely saw savory peanut butters on store shelves. “Adults like peanut butter and no one was targeting us and our palate for flavors,” he says. Use the nut butters on noodles,in sauces, or to enhance cookies. And, just like an-old school brand, a spoonful will stick to the roof of your mouth.
