Portland, Maine, artist Molly Thompson runs Pretty Flours, creating bright flower designs on 30-by-30-inch flour sack dish towels that are so lovely some people frame them ($23-$28). She produces the flower patterns with rubber stamps she carves, and presses the images onto the cotton fabric. Thompson then hand-paints the petals to add shades and details, so each kitchen towel is one of a kind. “I’m inspired by actual flowers or imagined ones,” says the artist. Most important, the towels are strong and highly absorbent. “They’re meant to be used,” she says. Available at Derby Farm Flowers & Gardens, 218 Mass. Ave., Arlington, 781-643-0482; Duck Soup, 365 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, 978-443-3825; 77 Blossom Shop, 77 S.
