New hotel in Cambridge caters to start-up mind-set
The recently opened AC Hotel in Cambridge fits into the area’s technology and innovation spirit. Located in Discovery Park near Alewife, the hotel is geared specifically toward entrepreneurs.
The Cambridge location has 150 rooms. Open floor plans have been designed with collaboration in mind, and meeting spaces are equipped with audio and visual capabilities. Other amenities include ample plug-in spaces, smart TVs, and a lounge that serves craft beer, wines, cocktails, and tapas-style dishes. The hotel library will offer travelers a quiet and traditional workspace, providing a wireless printer and iMac station.
The idea of innovation is embedded in the foundation of the hotel. Because Boston and Cambridge are tech-focused hubs, it makes sense that the start-up-geared AC Hotels would head to Beantown.
The Marriott partner has two locations in the state already, with a third set to open in the South End next fall.
The hotel chain has teamed up with Nigel Barker, a fashion photographer who many will recognize from his stint alongside Tyra Banks on “America’s Next Top Model.” Barker has created art and photographs specifically for AC, and has hosted photoshoots within their locations.
AC has also partnered with Startup Grind, a community focused on connecting likeminded entrepreneurs. Startup Grind hosts monthly talks in AC Hotels around the world.
The Cambridge location is operated by Cowlen Hotels of Portsmouth, N.H. Cowlen also runs an AC hotel in Medford.
Rates at the Cambridge location start at about $235.
