There’s a new brewery and tap room to visit on Cape Cod this year, with plenty of time to spare before the summer rush.
Naukabout Beer Co. is now open in Mashpee, on a property that once housed the Flume restaurant, overlooking Lake Mashpee and the Mashpee River.
“We couldn’t be any more excited to finally be brewing at our own location,” says CEO Peter Murner.
Naukabout has been contract-brewing its beer since 2012, offering a standard lineup of mostly IPAs and pale ales. The brewery’s name is a play on the “knockabout” shoes one of the company founders’ fathers would make his kids change into after a day of work.
The new brewery is about 10 miles from the Sagamore Bridge and features a seven-barrel brewing system, which has been cranking away on eight new brews for the launch. The early tap room lineup is focused on hop-forward beers, including Quittin’ Time New England IPA (6.7 percent ABV) and Tides Double IPA (8.8 percent ABV), which is triple dry-hopped.
Stormborn Stout (3.5 percent ABV) and Coastal Gold (4.1 percent), a creamy light beer, are more sessionable. There’s a blood orange sour and strawberry wheat ale on the way.
The Cape is becoming more brewery-friendly, with Devil’s Purse (South Dennis), Hog Island Beer Co. (Orleans), Barnstable Brewing (Hyannis), and now Naukabout joining Cape Cod Beer’s Hyannis location in recent months.
The new Naukabout Beer Co. brewery and tap room is at 13 Lake Ave., Mashpee.
