If you’re near the Seaport’s Innovation and Design Building on Saturday, June 22, you’ll no doubt notice a pungent, vinegary smell stoked with garlic filling the air. It’s the Boston Pickle Fair. The outdoor event returns for the third year. It’s a chance to taste tempura pickles, pickle ice cream, pickle soda, pickle beer, and plenty of other briny curiosities. Expect a bounty of all things fermented — kimchi, kraut, veggies, and more — from vendors like Pigeon Cove Ferments, Brine Bothers, Pickle Me Pete, The Pretentious Pickle Co., and Grillo’s Pickles. Head to the beer garden hosted by Down the Road Brewing Co., who again will serve up their dill pickle sour ale Sam-Sam the Pickle Man, made in partnership with Grillo’s. You’ll be taping your foot to the roving brass band. Planned are food trucks, a pickling contest, games, and quirky pickle-themed products to buy. “I can truly say that no one is more passionate about pickles in the country than the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” says pickler Andy Varela of Maitland Mountain Farm in Salem. There are two sessions, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. For details and tickets ($20) go to www.bostonpicklefair.com. 21 Drydock Ave., Boston Seaport.
