Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown has been contending with a norovirus outbreak since Tuesday afternoon. The highly contagious gastrointestinal infection has sickened 27 out of 132 inpatients, as well as eight staff within the past 48 hours.

Spaulding released a statement on Thursday noting that patients’ symptoms “are subsiding quickly and are being managed successfully.” Hospital managers have decided to postpone “non-essential visitation to the hospital as an added precaution,” but outpatient care appointments are still going on as scheduled.

Here are more details on the norovirus outbreak and how to manage norovirus symptoms.
