State clears South Shore Hospital in deaths of two women after childbirth
The Department of Public Health has cleared South Shore Hospital in the deaths of two women shortly after childbirth.
Colleen Celia, 32, of Middleborough died in January while giving birth to a healthy baby girl. A month earlier, Christie Billodeau Fazio, 30, of Marshfield, who worked as a nurse at the Weymouth hospital, died after giving birth to a healthy son.
According to a report released by the state Friday, inspectors did not find evidence of poor quality of care in one case. In the other, investigators could not make a determination, in part because autopsy results were not available to them.
The state cited the hospital for an incomplete anesthesia record that lacked an informed consent for one of the patients, who were not identified in the heavily redacted report, but said the problem was unrelated to the deaths.
