Leather District standby Sorriso Trattoria reopens as Bel Ari Italian Modern (107 South St.) on Sept. 18, and sister restaurant Les Zygomates is next up for a makeover. “Sorriso was getting kind of tired, and the whole area is evolving — we hope that both restaurants will become destinations,” says developer Travis Talbot. Co-owner Mark Tosi, who owns the New England-based Pastene Companies, bought the restaurants from Ian Just several months ago. (Just now runs the Financial District’s Society on High.)

Incoming Bel Ari and Les Zygomates chef Robert Fathman has worked at Grill 23 & Bar and Legal Sea Foods. At Bel Ari, he’ll serve sfizi, pizzas, pastas, and larger dishes like whole roasted pig; Talbot calls the menu “contemporary and imaginative.” Naturally, he’ll cook with some Pastene products. Les Zygomates will keep its name and bistro concept, but the new ownership will start a cosmetic facelift after Bel Ari’s opening. “The Leather District is becoming as exciting as South Boston, and we want to reflect that,” Talbot said.
