Jason Varitek’s new wife, Catherine , came to the defense of Heidi Watney on Twitter this week. The exchange began with an unusual question directed to Catherine and Heidi. “Is it true or not?” tweeted someone named Bobby Nit. “Did @HeidiWatney break up Tek’s first marriage or what?” Watney, a former NESN reporter who is now based in Los Angeles, responded to Nit immediately, tweeting “Absolutely not.” Soon after, Catherine, who married ’Tek last fall (he and first wife Karen divorced in 2009), chimed in with a few choice words for Nit, tweeting “Idiots are everywhere today! #JustSayin.” That was appreciated by Watney, who tweeted “Thank you” to Varitek’s wife. The former Sox captain’s new spouse certainly isn’t shy on Twitter. A few weeks ago, when it looked as though Bobby Valentine’s days might be numbered as Sox manager, she raised a few eyebrows with this tweet: “Yes, of course I think my husband would make an outstanding #RedSox Manager one day. Why on earth would I not?” But she later backtracked. “Who said I want him to be the next Manager?” she tweeted a few days later. “Not even an option now. We have more important things going on. Like our Family!”
