While the J. Geils Band rocks, Jay Geils hits up a classic car show

John Geils, also known as J. or Jay Geils, of Boston’s own J. Geils Band, brought his 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 to the Boston Cup Classic Car Show over the weekend. The guitarist, who’s still in a legal battle with his former bandmates over what his lawsuit calls “seeking to misappropriate and steal” the band name by touring without him, said, of his interest in classic cars, “When the band broke up in ’83, I went into the car business.” While Geils got ready for Sunday’s big show on the Common, his former mates, led by Peter Wolf, performed as the J. Geils Band in Hampton, N.H.
