Robert McNamara items sell for over $1m


Among the many interesting items owned by the late former US Defense Secretary Robert McNamara and auctioned this week by Sotheby’s were notes McNamara used during the filming of “The Fog of War,” the Oscar-winning documentary by Cambridge filmmaker Errol Morris. The memorabilia, which sold for over $1 million, also included letters, photos, the flag and globe from his office at the Defense Department, a collection of North Vietnamese propaganda, and three albums containing the original drawings of editorial cartoons about him. Though “The Fog of War” cast McNamara, one of the principal architects of the Vietnam War, in a harsh light, he and Morris became friends.
