Ariel Winter’s mother temporarily loses custody of the teen actress

The mother of ‘‘Modern Family’’ star Ariel Winter has temporarily lost custody of the teenage actress amid claims she has been abusive to her. Court records claim Chrisoula Workman has being physically and emotionally abusive to her 14-year-old daughter, who plays Alex Dunphy on the hit ABC comedy. The October order, first reported Wednesday by celebrity website TMZ, requires Workman to stay away from Winter until a November hearing. Records show Winter’s sister filed for guardianship and was appointed her temporary guardian. (AP)

Gaga gives storm aid

Lady Gaga is donating $1 million to the Red Cross to aid those affected by Superstorm Sandy. The New York-born singer posted on her blog Wednesday that she is pledging the money on behalf of her parents and sister. (AP)
