Matt Damon to join Clooney in ‘Monuments Men’?

Matt Damon, whose new movie, “Promised Land,” premiered in New York this week, is in talks to join the cast of “The Monuments Men.” The film stars George Clooney as George Stout, director of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum from 1955-70. (Before he joined the Gardner, Stout was among a group of art experts enlisted to track down European art stolen by the Nazis during World War II.) Damon would join a cast that already includes Cate Blanchett, Daniel Craig, Bill Murray, Jean Dujardin, and John Goodman. At the “Promised Land” premiere, Damon talked about working with Newton homey John Krasinski, who co-wrote the script. “We worked really fast. It reminded me of writing with Ben [ Affleck ], actually. It was exciting. Every time we worked, the script would get better and I could objectively see that it was improving. It became clear very early on that we were going to make the movie.”
