Spears to leave ‘X Factor’

Britney Spears says she has made the ‘‘difficult decision’’ to leave Fox’s ‘‘The X Factor’’ after one season. In a statement Friday, the pop singer said she had an incredible time working on the singing contest but that it was time to get back into the studio to record. It was widely reported Thursday that Spears and ‘‘X Factor’’ were parting ways after a season in which the show’s ratings fell and Spears received lackluster reviews as a panelist.

Kimmel, No. 3

Jimmy Kimmel says he expects to settle in as the third-rated talk show host in late-night TV, even as early ratings suggest he’s competitive in his new time slot. He is finishing his first week in the 11:35 p.m. time slot, competing with Jay Leno and David Letterman . Matt Damon is a scheduled guest on “Kimmel” on Jan. 24.
