Whitney Houston’s mom opens up

Cissy Houston has a few words, and a few more, for Bobby Brown. In ‘‘Remembering Whitney,’’ the mother of the late Whitney Houston writes that from the start she had doubted whether Brown was right for her daughter. And she thinks that Whitney might not have ended up so ‘‘deep’’ into drugs had they not stayed together.

‘‘Remembering Whitney’’ came out Tuesday, two weeks short of the first anniversary of Houston’s death at 48. She drowned in a hotel bathtub in Beverly Hills, Calif.; authorities said her death was complicated by cocaine use and heart disease.

In a recent telephone interview, Houston said she has no contact with the Boston-born Brown and didn’t see any reason to, not even concerning her granddaughter, Bobbi Kristina. Brown is portrayed in the book as childish and impulsive, hot-tempered and jealous of his wife’s success. They divorced in 2007, after 15 years of marriage.

Cissy Houston, herself an accomplished soul and gospel singer, said she wanted the book published so the world would not believe the worst about her daughter.

Chris Brown investigated

Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown is under investigation for an alleged assault in a West Hollywood parking lot, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement early Monday. Deputies responding to a report of six men fighting Sunday night found the scene clear, but were told by witnesses there had been a brief fight over a parking space. ‘‘The altercation allegedly led to Chris Brown punching the victim,’’ the department said. The ‘‘victim’’ wasn’t identified, but the celebrity website TMZ, which first reported the fight outside the Westlake Recording Studio, said it also involved Grammy nominee Frank Ocean.

Diggs captures suspect

Los Angeles police say actor Taye Diggs chased and captured a burglary suspect. It happened after the ‘‘Private Practice’’ star and his wife returned to their Studio City, Calif., home from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where Diggs was a presenter. LAPD spokesman Richard French said that shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Diggs saw a man in his garage. French says the man ran off, but Diggs followed him and held him for police. Hassan Juma, 20, was arrested and jailed.
