Taylor Swift on serial boyfriends, home buying in Vanity Fair

Singer Taylor Swift tries hard to dispel a few myths — or at least what she’d like you to believe are myths — in the new issue of Vanity Fair.

First, despite many high-profile romances with, among others, John Mayer, Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, and Jake Gyllenhaal, Swift insists she is neither boy crazy nor a serial dater.

“The fact that there are slide shows of a dozen guys that I either hugged on a red carpet or met for lunch or wrote a song with . . . it’s just kind of ridiculous,” she says. “If you want some big revelation, since 2010 I have dated exactly two people.”

She seems to be referring to One Direction singer Harry Styles, from whom she recently split, and, of course, Conor Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s teenage son with whom she spent a few whirlwind months last summer. (We’re confused, though, because she and Gyllenhaal broke up in 2011, which qualifies as “since 2010,” doesn’t it?)

Handout

The courtship with Kennedy was thought to be quite serious, with Swift and the scion frequently photographed holding hands and strolling together through Hyannis Port. What about those reports that Swift was so smitten with the Deerfield Academy student that she plunked down $4.9 million for a seven-bedroom spread right across the street from Ethel Kennedy’s crib? Swift’s answer is ambiguous.

“People say . . . that I apparently buy houses near every boy I like — that’s a thing that I apparently do. If I like you I will apparently buy up the real-estate market just to freak you out so you leave me,” she told the magazine. “If there’s a pregnancy rumor, people will find out it’s not true when you wind up not being pregnant, like nine months from now, and if there’s a house rumor, they’ll find out it’s not true when you are actively not ever spotted at that house.”

So did she or didn’t she buy the house? Our sources say she did, and Ethel Kennedy herself called Swift a “neighbor” when we spoke to her last fall. Vanity Fair, likewise, quoting “someone close to the situation,” claims Swift bought the house, but has since sold it.

“It was like a house-flip,” the source told the magazine. “A good short-term investment.”

We ran that by Paul Grover of Robert Paul Properties, which has a handle on the disposition of every significant waterfront parcel on the Cape, and he confirmed that the property has changed hands in the past month or so.

Finally, Swift takes a swipe in the Vanity Fair interview at Tina Fey and Burlington’s own Amy Poehler, who made a joke at the singer’s expense during the Golden Globe Awards. (“You know what, Taylor Swift?” Fey said. “You stay away from Michael J. Fox’s son.”)

Asked about the crack, Swift quotes Katie Couric.

“[Couric] said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women,’ ” said Swift.

Poehler said Tuesday she’s sorry for the joke. Well, sort of.

“Aw, I feel bad if she was upset,” the “Parks and Recreation” star told The Hollywood Reporter. “I am a feminist and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff.”
