Peter Berg, whose credits include “Friday Night Lights” and “The Kingdom,” has signed on to direct the pilot for an HBO series based on Belmont author Tom Perrotta’s 2011 novel, “The Leftovers.” Perrotta is collaborating on the script with “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof. Word is filming will take place in New York in June, with a likely 2014 premiere date in the event that HBO picks up the pilot.
