If anyone has a unique perspective on the business of baseball, and the so-called “Moneyball” approach to the game, it’s Craig Breslow. The journeyman pitcher has played for six teams, including small-market Oakland and big-market Boston. So Breslow felt right at home Monday at the State Room in Boston, sitting alongside ex-Sox general manager Theo Epstein (now president of the Chicago Cubs) and current Oakland A’s GM Billy Beane (played by Brad Pitt in the “Moneyball” movie) at an event organized by the Foundation to be Named Later, the charity started by Theo and his brother Paul Epstein. A packed room attended The “Business of Baseball” lunch to hear legendary sports journo Peter Gammons query his panelists, including Theo, Beane, Breslow, and baseball economist Andrew Zimbalist. It wasn’t just the pretty view and chicken sandwiches that lured Beane to town. The Sox began a three-game set with Oakland last night.
