Ben Affleck gearing up to film ‘Live by Night’

What’s Ben Affleck up to next? The director of the Oscar-winning international thriller “Argo” has set his sights closer to home. Affleck is preparing to shoot “Live by Night,” based on the book by Dennis Lehane. Deadline.com reports that Affleck, who’d also been mulling a Whitey Bulger biopic and a big-screen version of Stephen King’s “The Stand,” has started pre-production on an adaptation of Lehane’s novel. With any luck, he could begin shooting in late summer or early fall. “Live by Night,” which just won the 2013 Edgar Award for best novel — chosen by the Mystery Writers of America — is a 1920s gangster/love story set in Boston and Florida. This is the second Lehane novel that Affleck has adapted. The first was “Gone Baby Gone.” No word if Affleck, who’ll produce, direct, and star in the film, plans to shoot here. But, given his fondness for the place, our guess is yes.
