Out-of-this-world CD launch for Jared Leto

Actor/musician Jared Leto and his band Thirty Seconds to Mars just launched their new CD. No, really, they launched it — in a rocket 261 miles to the International Space Station. The band talked about their collaboration with NASA during an appearance at RadioBDC and the Globe to promote Tuesday’s sold-out show at the Wilbur Theater. Leto, who grew up in Greenfield and Springfield, called the band’s relationship with the US space agency a dream come true. “We went to NASA and said we had this crazy idea. They really shared our thoughts and passions and said they were willing to help us out.” As a result, the band’s new CD, “Up in the Air,” was first played by astronauts orbiting Earth while Leto and his bandmates Shannon Leto and Tomo
Milicevic
were at Mission Control, Houston. Leto also said the band is selling a keepsake lithograph to benefit the One Fund. “We’re giving back,” he said. “We’re really grateful people.”
