Filmmaker John Sayles, whose impressive resume includes “Matewan,” “Eight Men Out,” and “The Secret of Roan Inish,” is coming to Plimoth Plantation July 19 to screen his 2010 movie, “Amigo.” Afterward, Sayles will do a Q&A with his longtime producer partner Maggie Renzi and actor Chris Cooper, who appears in the film. An independent auteur, the 62-year-old Sayles supports his career as a director by being a writer-for-hire in Hollywood. You’d never guess it, but he had a hand in writing “The Spiderwick Chronicles.”
