Oldtime game will honor Red Sox great Johnny Pesky

The Oldtime Baseball Game in Cambridge this Wednesday wouldn’t be the same without a Pesky in attendance. David Pesky, son of the late Red Sox great Johnny Pesky, will do the honors with a pregame remembrance about his spirited dad, who helped coach the charity event for 10 years. WEEI’s Lou Merloni will take the field wearing one of the more than 60 replica uniforms plucked from baseball history, all part of the evening’s “throwback” theme. Former Boston College player Pete Frates, a 2012 participant who’s battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease, returns as a coach. Sportswriter Steve Buckley, who started the game 20 years ago, will help emcee. Admission is free, with donations benefiting the Scleroderma Foundation of New England. Game time is 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Field on Sherman Street.
