With Neil Patrick Harris, Hasty gets its man

A sequin bra, a wig, and red heels – that summed up the Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ 2014 Man of the Year Roast with Neil Patrick Harris Friday at Harvard. The actor gamely celebrated by enduring an array of taunts and tasks doled out by the nation’s oldest undergrad drama troupe. “I felt very comfortable in the wig and the heels,” said Harris after the ceremony. The roasters had their way with Harris, mocking the honoree for making over 200 episodes of mediocre television. The absurdity continued as the Harvard students required Harris to spoon feed a stand-in for his “How I Met Your Mother” co-star Jason Segel, and sing a variation of “Season of Love” titled, “Why Does the Whole Wide World Love Neil Patrick Harris?” When he received the Pudding Pot, Harris thanked his hosts by playfully announcing, “I never went to college, I thought you were all pompous and pretentious, but you have all been caring and wonderful.” Afterward, Harris said he’d had a sweet time in Cambridge, and it’s true. At a luncheon at Harvest, the actor ordered two desserts: Key lime tart basil marshmallows and taza chocolate cremeux with house-made sea salt. But no pudding.
