Patrick Kennedy set to write memoir

Former Rhode Island congressman Patrick Kennedy has a book deal. He has signed up to write “A Common Struggle: A Very Personal Journey Through the Past and Future of Mental Illness and Addiction” for Penguin’s Blue Rider Press with co-author Stephen Fried, whose works include “Husbandry” and “Thing of Beauty: The Tragedy of Supermodel Gia.” The book will be released late next year. Kennedy’s literary agent David Black said the book will focus on Kennedy’s advocacy as well as his own experiences. Kennedy did have a book deal to write a similar memoir with journalist Mary Ann Akers in 2010, but the project was scrapped.
