
While in town to speak at UMass Boston, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the UN’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, gathered with friends and family at the home of Boston developer Bob Beal. Guests included Figueres’s mother, Karen Olsen Beck, the former First Lady of Costa Rica, Appalachian Mountain Club president John Judge, Mayor Marty Walsh’s policy director Joyce Linehan, Simona Petrova, director of the CEB Secretariat of the UN, and her husband, Ted Vassilev, owner of DTR Modern Galleries on Newbury Street, and Ira Jackson, dean of the John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at UMass Boston.
