Talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel this weekend surprised his buddy Dicky Barrett, whose band the Mighty Mighty Bosstones performed at City Hall Plaza Saturday as part of the Phantom Gourmet BBQ & Music Festival. The Mightiest Bosstone, who turns the big 5-0 Sunday, celebrated with a birthday bash that also featured performances by the Gaslight Anthem and Barrence Whitfield & the Savages. (Barrett is the announcer on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”) The talk-show host flew into Boston with his cousin Sal Iacono — known to viewers of his show as “Cousin Sal” — and there was a rumor that Kimmel, who plays the clarinet, might be joining the Bosstones onstage.
